Such a tough questions, there are so many books that I love. If I had to pick, i'd probably say Jane Eyre. I've read it and re-read it at so many different points in my life and I get something new out of it every time. I hate it when it gets written off as some gothic romance, or even just a romance when it's a story about a strong, passionate woman who refuses to liven within the expected restrictions of her life.

Ahh, love A Room With A View. That book (and the movie) are what made me want to study in Florence. I re-read it on my trip this summer and I'd forgotten how funny it is, not to mention wonderfully swoony. Lucy Honeychurch is one of my favorite character names, ever.

Ohhh, "Jane Eyre." Yes. I need to revisit; it has been too long.

You mentioned my favorite quality of "A Room with a View" -- it is very funny. I love funny romantic books and this was my introduction into that subset. It taught me that books can be posh and costume-y and lush and still be filled with humor and longing.

I put up a status explaining that I am conflicted by this answer and now my friends are teasing me. How do you pick just one?!
