Favorite of the Week: Caro Emerald

Dutch singer Caro Emerald is quite the sensation in Europe and points further. I'd heard about her record-breaking album, but I hadn't yet given her songs a listen. When I heard she's set to make her U.S. debut just down the street from Wilshire Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue next week, I spent some time with her videos.

Eyes swirly. Ears fizzy. I'm in music amour. She has a sultry, '40s-style Hollywood sound that has loads of oomph and some modern dashes. This is what house music for the fictional Wilfair Hotel might sound like. I can totally hear it playing in The Wilfair's lobby.

Chiara, I'm guessing you know lots about Ms. Emerald? Is she from your neck of the woods, or nearby?

Also, her vintage style, her gorgeousness, and joyful vavoom. Yep. I'm posting two videos.

I'm so obsessed with Caro Emerald right now! Only heard of her a few weeks ago, but I've had her album on repeat since I brought it. Her music, her style, her whole vibe is fabulous. I also have serious fashion envy for the sparkly silver dress in the first video.

Kelly! I've decided this blog has magical powers. Not because of me or the blog itself but definitely the people who come by. Seriously, I mention liking something and there's someone else who is also obsessed! Love it!

(So ladies, you gotta say what you're into, because chances are high I'll like it or someone else will, too. Spread the love!)

Anyway. CARO. Oh my word. I was going to use the word "obsessed" in my post because I am. I fully admit it. And that silver dress! YES. I had the same reaction.

Whaaaaaaat. This is seriously weird, because I also spent a significant portion of the past week with this album on repeat!! Last listened to it several months ago, then suddenly got the urge again on Tuesday. (Are you in my head?)

So, I'm notoriously NOT up on current music/trends/etc., but how have I not heard of Caro Emerald????? LOVE! Thanks for the introduction.

So I went to the show last night (which happened on the block *next* to the Aisle Eleven/frozen peas grocery store).

In a word: Caro!!!!!

Loved x 100.

Many audience members were dressed very Fair Finley, too. Big flowers behind ears and beautiful old-school gowns.

I half-wondered if Fair herself had walked down for the show, since the venue's about two blocks from Wilshire/Fairfax. Didn't see our hotel heiress, but perhaps she was in the balcony.

I'm going to guess Monty might have joined her, too, given the cinematic feel of this music.

Fabulous! Never heard of her before but she's definitely going into my ipod! Brings me back to my college swing dancing days!

Glad you liked the gig! I obviously know Caro, well not her personally but you can't live in The Netherlands and now know her. I remember an interview on the radio a while back where she was talking about getting her music to the US, I'm glad she's doing it and being successful at it it seems! She's from Amsterdam so not from my neck of the woods, speaking in Dutch terms that is because we're such a small country, everything is basically nearby.

Right, I think I knew you were probably from different areas but that's so cool! She made a big impression here in LA, which can be hard, since my city is a little jaded on the entertainment front. I'm sure she will be a very big star here in the U.S.

Oh, and Ginny, what? You were a swing dancer? I think I need to know more. I'm a fan. LA has quite the swing scene. In fact, that sort of "swing style," in terms of clothing and hair, is very much alive and well here. The Bettie Page look for ladies, '50s-style everything.

I just realized I made a spelling mistake in my earlier comment, I meant to write "not" obviously and not "now". Just sayin'

Cool she was so well-received! And I find it kinda amusing that you've seen her live before me, with me living in the same country as Caro and all.

Speaking about music, does anybody here know Beth Hart? Different from Caro Emerald but she's gone a bit retro with her latest album, which is coming out in April in the US (it had an European release last October already). She's also going on tour in the US this year and she's amazing live, like breathtaking amazing, so if you get a chance to see her, take it!
